Lawyers at the forefront of major events: from Milan-Cortina to the America’s Cup

Il Sole 24 Ore has published an article on the role of law firms in major sporting events. Journalist Massimiliano Carbonaro interviewed Paolo Trevisanato, partner at Andersen, who explains how the firm won the tender to provide legal and tax assistance to the organizers of the America’s Cup, guaranteeing multidisciplinary support involving twelve service lines.

The activities will cover international taxation, maritime law, contracts, cross-border labor management, and related regulatory aspects.

The 38th edition of the America’s Cup, the oldest international sporting competition, will come to Italy for the first time in 2027. The races will be held in Naples, a city that will host teams, partners, and operators from all over the world, in an organizational context of extraordinary complexity.

The professional challenge is not only technical in nature: events of this magnitude require the ability to coordinate legal, tax, and operational expertise within tight deadlines, while maintaining a shared strategic vision among the institutions, economic operators, and administrations involved.

As Andrea De Vecchi, CEO of Andersen Italia and co-Managing Partner of Andersen Global’s European division, points out, “Managing major international events requires an integrated approach that combines a global vision with a local presence. Andersen’s strength lies in its ability to offer coordinated expertise in multiple countries and specialist areas through a single structure. Multidisciplinarity is not an accessory, but an essential condition for ensuring efficiency, regulatory certainty, and lasting value for the projects we support.”

This is the second time that the America’s Cup has chosen Andersen as its legal and tax partner, confirming its confidence in the group’s international consulting model, based on collaboration between professionals with different but complementary experiences.

Andersen will continue to support the organizers in defining the regulatory and operational aspects of the event, contributing to the success of an event that represents a showcase of excellence for sport, business, and the country.
