The regulation reinforces the central role of ESG compliance in global supply chains and requires companies to implement a structured supply chain management system.<\/p>\n<p>The main changes include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 a reduction in administrative burdens of up to 75 per cent;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 clarifications on obligations for downstream operators;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 simplified rules for micro and small operators;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 updates on the geolocation and traceability of raw materials.<\/p>\n<h2>Increase in environmental levies on plastic packaging<\/h2>\n<p>From 1 October 2026, the <strong>CONAI<\/strong> Environmental Levy is set to increase for all categories of <strong>plastic packaging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This measure reflects:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 rising recycling costs;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 volatility in the secondary raw materials market;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 the need to support circular economy objectives.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses will need to update their classification systems, contractual arrangements and administrative processes relating to packaging management.<\/p>\n<h2>Greenwashing: new rules and ESG compliance risks<\/h2>\n<p>The European and Italian regulatory framework on <strong>greenwashing<\/strong> is being strengthened with new rules on environmental communications and <strong>ESG claims made by companies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The main developments concern:<br \/>\n\u2022 a stricter definition of environmental claims and certifications;<br \/>\n\u2022 a ban on generic, unverifiable claims;<br \/>\n\u2022 the extension of scrutiny to communications with investors;<br \/>\n\u2022 greater focus on consistency between climate strategies, ESG data and sustainability reporting.<\/p>\n<p>The new framework increases the level of corporate accountability in sustainability statements and requires rigorous management of communications, thereby reducing the risk of non-compliance and reputational risk.<\/p>\n<h2>Subsidised finance for businesses: ESG certifications 2026<\/h2>\n<p>In 2026, numerous <strong>national and regional ESG funding schemes<\/strong> will remain in place to support SMEs investing in<strong> sustainability, certifications and responsible governance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The financial measures relate in particular to:<br \/>\n\u2022 UNI\/PdR 125:2022 <strong>gender equality<\/strong> certification;<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>environmental sustainability<\/strong> projects and <strong>ESG consultancy<\/strong>;<br \/>\n\u2022 management systems and certification pathways.<\/p>\n<p>Public grants cover up to 50% of eligible expenditure, representing a tangible opportunity to accelerate the <strong>ESG transition<\/strong> of SMEs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ESG newsletter \u201cSustainability Pills\u201d is now available, produced by Andersen\u2019s ESG Sustainable Innovation Service Line, led by Partner Francesca Capoferri.
